The LJ Torana was built from Feb 1972-March 1974
A facelift of the 1969-72 LC Torana, now the LJ with new HQ style grille and HQ style steering column, revised tail lights and dashboard, better handling and the engines were all improved. Again available in 2 and 4 door, and in many different models.
The 4 cyl, got a flat grille, available in base 56hp 1200 2 door, also deluxe 63hp 1300cc or 80hp 1600cc 2 and 4 door.
The 6 cyl cars got the HQ style egg crate grille, with a protruding pointed centre, also rectangular wrap around tail lights separated into 3 segments. They were available in base S model 2 or 4 door, upmarket SL 4 door, the sporty GTR 2 door and race ready XU1 2 door. Engines were either the 95hp 138 cu in (2250c), or the optional 118hp 161 cu in (2600cc)
The GTR got 135hp 202 cu in, 4 speed floor shift, louvres in the front guards, black out treatment, side stripes, GTR badging, sports wheels and sports instrumentation.
The XU1 got the 190hp 202 cu in with triple carbys, similar look as the GTR, but front and rear spoilers as well.
