This series was made to encourage immigration to Australia and to highlight the various social activities, employment and educational opportunities and lifestyles of the various cities and regional centres throughout Australia. This film shows an idyllic picture of life in the Victorian capital of Melbourne in the mid 1960s. Previously uploaded in SD it is now available in 4K HD.

  4. In before "times were better then". I prefer the Melbourne of today. Food is so much more diverse and pubs are open all night. Perfect.

  9. Milk runs would not be viable by the 1970s or 1980s. There'd be some scroungy tramps stealing the milk deliveries before the recipients woke up to retrieve them.

  12. Many thanks for the HD version.
    Brought back a lot of memories of growing up in Melbourne in the 60s.
    Some of the featured buildings are long gone (for some, probably not a bad thing).
    The brief glimpse of the giant Santa on the side of the Foys building was nice, as was the shot of Bourke Street out the front of Myer before the creation of the Mall.
    Alas, no more engine manufacturing at Fishermans Bend, but at least seatbelts are now compulsory. 😉
